About Jazz and Rhythm

A non academic look at Jazz and Rhythm & Blues records, 1935-1955. I will be posting records from my personal 78 rpm collection.

James Z
On this site I will share White Gospel Quartets, Black Gospel Quartets, Country Gospel, & Bluegrass Gospel…with the odd solo performer, trio & quintet thrown in for good measure and all from records in my collection. Often, there is a segregation of these music forms, either because of personal taste or academic conversation. I, on the other hand, will lump them all together. The topics and motivation were all the same. I will focus on the post-war period, 1945-1965. There may be a few strays here and there, but if so, the spirit of the music will fit within the timeframe described. This is a music site and as such, music alone will convey its message and each can take from it what they choose. One of the great things about music is the ability to enjoy it, on a personal level, with no strings attached! I will throw in miscellaneous academic details, as I am able and the information is available. I do not promise to be a scholar on the subject. I just know what music I enjoy and that I like to share it. The search for gospel records is never ending and the supply from the first two decades of the post war period feels to be infinite…thank goodness for that!
